Gandhi, Gandhi An Autobiography: The Story of My Experiments With Truth
Biography | ISBN 0807059099 | 1993 Year | PDF | 1.9 Mb | 269 Pages

Gandhi's nonviolent struggles in South Africa and India had already brought him to such a level of notoriety, adulation, and controversy that when asked to write an autobiography midway through his career, he took it as an opportunity to explain himself. Although accepting of his status as a great innovator in the struggle against racism, violence, and, just then, colonialism, Gandhi feared that enthusiasm for his ideas tended to exceed a deeper understanding. He says that he was after truth rooted in devotion to God and attributed the turning points, successes, and challenges in his life to the will of God. His attempts to get closer to this divine power led him to seek purity through simple living, dietary practices (he called himself a fruitarian), celibacy, and ahimsa, a life without violence. It is in this sense that he calls his book The Story of My Experiments with Truth, offering it also as a reference for those who would follow in his footsteps. A reader expecting a complete accounting of his actions, however, will be sorely disappointed.

He hated black people and this is well documented in his own words. Just google "gandhi racist"(minus the quotes) and you'll find all you need to know. ID:378862 378862 shesh 04 Mar 2007 18:15 'Technoshaman' seems like he got his facts totally topsy turvy.
Mahatma Gandhi was the person who spent his entire life educating the people of INDIA to abhor casteism which is unfortunately still a prevalant form of racism in India. He called the untouchables (Name given by upper caste persons to lower caste persons) as Harijans meaning childern of the god hari / Vishnu and ate along with them Etc Etc.
He even propounded the message God is one and his names are many. The part of the song which he wrote in Hindi is as follows 'ishwar Allah tere naam' meaning Lord Shiva & Allah is the name by which you (God) is called.

Enough of my rambling.

Regds,

"Martin Luther King" Gandhi ID:379044 379044 akhterrasoolpathan 05 Mar 2007 10:01 Dont compare "Martin Luther King" with Gandhi, the latter can't even be a shadow of the former. Martin Luther King was a miracle in human garb but Gandhi, I should reserve my comments. ID:379194 379194 helloavax 05 Mar 2007 10:22 People who say that Gandhi was a racist are all sick people and they love contaminating the real history. Please stop fabrication and be aware that if Gandhi and few other leaders were racists then the British couldn't have ruled India for such a long time. Yes, Gandhian thoughts are all not perfect but he was far away from racism.

Gandhi took a few wrong decisions like indirectly forcing Subhash Chandra Bose to step down as an elected Congress president. It was bapu Gandhi and chacha Nehru who by mistake took a few wrong decisions and trusted a few wrong people. ID:379200 379200 helloavax 05 Mar 2007 10:28 Did you guys know that in South Africa Gandhi not only raised his voice against racism but also fought against British racism against local blacks and non resident Indians. People who call Gandhi a racist often misunderstand what Gandhi actually wanted to say.

If Gandhi was a racist then why the South Africans (incl Nelson Mandela) still respect him ID:379207 379207 akhterrasoolpathan 05 Mar 2007 11:29 Nobody respect him, it is just an inflatted baloon. Nothing else, thanks to Indian media, they may present their ugly "Miss Universe" "Miss World" and "Miss I dont know", as if they are out of this world. I can recall a famous quote which was said for Indian so called "Superstar" Mr. Ajey Devgan, "if Indian hero is of this sort what about their sweepers". Same can be said for Gandhi. ID:379228 379228 shadowguru 05 Mar 2007 11:53 yeah helloavax, as I read Long walk to the freedom from Nelson Mandela, he took a lot inspiration from Gandhi /even he wanted&did more action/ dont forget... anyway thanx for share :] ID:379242 379242 technoshaman 05 Mar 2007 15:51 @anyone who defends Gandhi: It takes a special person to look at their heroes and realize they were nothing more than ordinary men with the same downfalls as the rest of us; I too thought Gandhi was a good person but it's simply not true. If your small mind can't take the time to check the facts then don't bother responding with your preconceived notions either. I did my homework and you can do yours before posting. ID:379374 379374 technoshaman 05 Mar 2007 16:04 helloavax: Sorry but it's well documented that the man hated black people. You can argue till you're blue in the face but the truth is the man was a racist.

"Addressing a public meeting in Bombay on Sept. 26 1896 (CW II p. 74), Gandhi said:

Ours is one continued struggle against degradation sought to be inflicted upon us by the European, who desire to degrade us to the level of the raw Kaffir, whose occupation is hunting and whose sole ambition is to collect a certain number of cattle to buy a wife with, and then pass his life in indolence and nakedness."

"In its editorial on the Natal Municipal Corporation Bill, the Indian Opinion of March 18 1905 wrote:

Clause 200 makes provision for registration of persons belonging to uncivilized races (Editor's note: meaning the local Africans), resident and employed within the Borough. One can understand the necessity of registration of Kaffirs who will not work, but why should registration be required for indentured Indians who have become free, and for their descendants about whom the general complaint is that they work too much "

You did Not convince me that Mr. Ghandi was a racist with this copy paste thing...in a few simple words: You have NOT made yourself clear!!! ID:276593 276593 helloavax 13 May 2007 16:03 Did you know that Gandhi adopted a muslim as his own son and got Nehru's daughter as his son's wife. If Gandhi's lectures were fabricated by the shameless Pakis then Gandhi can't take any responsibilty.
